Beach location: A tortuous track from Pelekas Village, on the Corfu to
Paleokastritsa route, gets you to this very attractive beach. Look for the (signposted) turning from the main road. The road is not particularly well maintained. (Take this as a large hint!)
Disabled access: Disabled access is just about possible (once you're parked up). There is decking access to
Pelekas beach but the sand is soft and wheelchairs will still find it hard going.
Car parking: Park on the roadside. Normally, there's plenty of space. In high season it's a different matter. Be aware, the road is narrow and you need to park "tight". It's best to turn round before you park. Turning round with another thirty cars parked behind you is very difficult!
Food outlets/restaurants: A few tavernas and cantina style beach bars (if operating). One massive hotel complex.
Sand/pebbles/shingles: Soft golden sand surrounded by hills. Beautiful!
Sunbeds/umbrellas: Yes.
Showers: Yes. (Well a couple of taps actually!)
Safe for children: In the main the sea is gentle. There can be waves at times but routinely this is a very good beach for young swimmers of all abilities.
Watersports: Limited. Pedaloes and canoes.
Main users: "Locals" at weekends - tourists the rest of the time.
Well cared for: Yes.
Mooring for boats: Only small craft.
Next to quayside/harbour: No.
Storm drains/outlets into sea: None observed.
Natural shady areas: There are olive groves and dense vegetation beyond the beach. Pelekas beach itself, however, is exposed.
Any other facilities: Mini markets, rooms to let and a monstrosity of a hotel complex scarring the hillside.
Distance to main resorts: Glyfada and Agios Gordios are each about four or five km.
Public transport: Buses as far as the village. After that you walk. Otherwise bring your own transport.
