Kouloura Beach - Corfu island - Greece
Around the headland from Kalami is the pretty fishing village of Kouloura Corfu. Not much of a beach, just a narrow strip of sand and shingle under the cliffs opposite the harbour but a beautiful setting that oozes peace and tranquility. Rocky coves offer snorkeling and sunbathing . Much visited by boats the sea can get dirty with fuel in the summer and sea urchins are a problem on the rocks . No boat hire, no watersports, no bars, no clubs , one taverna and the nearest shop is a 20min walk to Kalami - heaven on earth.

kouloura corfu

Beach location: "Sister" to Kalami (although completely different in environment - more of a harbour than a beach) and accessed at the same point from the northern highway running from Corfu town to Kassiopi, Kouloura is about 1km. "earlier" on the route north. After the signposted turning from the main road, a steep track (now surfaced) winds down into a pleasant cul-de-sac fishing harbour.
Disabled access: Only access for wheelchairs as far as the pleasant taverna and "promenade" area.
Car parking: Very difficult. Take your hint from the line of cars already parked and join it (preferably turning round first). If you travel beyond the line of cars, you will find yourself on a narrow, dead-end road that gives out at the taverna door. Here you will probably experience difficulty turning around.
Food outlets/restaurants: One taverna. Sand/pebbles/shingle: Pebbles and a somewhat scrappy shingle beach, beyond the harbour area.
Sunbeds/umbrellas: Kouloura beach is not "organised" like its sister next door. No sunbeds or umbrellas.
Showers: No. Safe for children: The area around Kouloura harbour has a fair amount of water traffic. Kouloura beach is relatively safe but there are stones and shingle underfoot. There is no sand. Having said this, the environment is mainly placid and sheltered for novice swimmers. Watersports: No.
Main users: Visitors on yachts and the occasional (desperate) tourist plus a few locals from time to time.
Well cared for: Yes. Mooring for boats: There is a well developed harbour and normally space, even in high season. Otherwise, moor off in the sheltered bay. Next to quayside/harbour: Yes. However, Kouloura harbour area is clean and the boat traffic is relatively unobtrusive.
Storm drains/outlets into sea: None observed. Natural shady areas: Densely forested hillsides provide shady areas to sit and walk beyond the harbour and beach. Any other facilities: Beyond a card-phone, via which you can summon a taxi, there are no facilities. Travel 1 km to next-door Kalami for a selection of shops, eateries, accommodation etc., Distance to main resorts: Ipsos and Pirgi are 15km. Corfu town is 30km. Public transport: Buses will take you as far as the main road, otherwise it's a taxi or independent transport. Blue Flag: No.
