Gouvia Beach - Corfu island - Greece
A short distance north of Corfu town , located off the main road leading to Ipsos, Pyrgi and Dassia. Watch for the signs as you travel north, along the six-Iane highway that acts as the land-side bound- ary for the resort.
Tum right down the narrow lanes that lead initially to the resort and, thereafter, the beach. Parking at the beach itself is virtually impossible and you need to park on the roadside in the resort. |
Disabled access : Yes. Gouvia is a relatively flat resort and there are disabled access points to the beach at several places.
Car parking: Very limited. Park on the roadside and walk.
Food outlets/restaurants: A full range of eateries is available, albeit the best selection is located away from the beach, in the resort itself. Sand/pebbles/shingle: Small coloured stones. It's like sunbathing on the municipal car park!
Sunbeds/umbrellas: Yes.
Showers: Yes. For toilets use the bars and tavernas.
Safe for children: Placid seas with very clear water. Stones underfoot and vigilance in respect of watersports and boat movements is necessary. Watersports: Yes.
Main users: Tourists.
Well cared for: Yes.
Mooring for boats: Corfu 's largest marina is located here with every conceivable nautical facility.
Next to Quayside/harbour: Yes. Despite this, the waters around remain clean and the marina activity does not appear to impinge sig- nificantly on beach activities.
Storm drains/outlets into sea: None observed.
Natural shady areas: No. This is another exposed beach although there are some pleasant tree-Iined walks a short distance away. Otherwise, take refuge in one of the many eateries!
Any other facilities : Full resort facilities plus a short distance from Corfu Town .
Distance to main resorts: 0-1 km depending on accommodation.
Public transport: Frequent bus service and taxi rank.
Blue Flag: No. This is a beach that scores well despite its lack of a blue flag. However it's high on facilities and low on ambience. |
