Beach location: Follow the main west coast road from
Corfu town in the direction of Ermones or Pelekas. Do not be deceived by the initially good condition of the road. This eventually gives out into little more than a track. This route to
Glyfada is signposted and, following a series of hair-raising hairpin bends, the road gives out at the beach itself. However, you will have arrived at one of the most beautiful beaches on
Corfu and, hopefulIy, you will consider the scary last few kilometres worthwhile.
Disabled access: It's possible with a struggle to get a wheelchair onto the beach. However, the sand is very soft and deep in most places.
Car parking: The "road" down to Glyfada beach drops you straight into the municipal (paid) car park. Altemately, park on the roadside.
Food outlets/restaurants: There are several bars and eating places. One or two day-time disco bars.
Sand/pebbles/shingle: Beautiful soft golden sand. Sunbeds/umbrellas: Yes.
Showers: Yes - and even lockers for your clothes. For toilets, use the beach bars and tavernas.
Safe for children: This is a very steep beach with soft deep sand. It's easy for youngsters to lose their footing. There is a major swell and large waves. Less confident swimmers will need supervision. More experienced swimmers will enjoy body-boarding or surfing here.
Watersports: A limited range.
Main users: Popular with both locals and tourists.
Well cared for: Yes.
Mooring for boats: No.
Next to quayside/harbour: No.
Storm drains/outlets into sea: None observed.
Natural shady areas: No. Another exposed beach.
Any other facilities: Glyfada beach is beginning to expand into a resort, with a few major hotel complexes and a limited tourist infrastructure.
Distance to main resorts: Corfu Town 15km,
Paleokastritsa 20-25 km.
Public transport: Bus service or phone a taxi.
Blue Flag: Yes
